Customizing the LaTeX import and export filters means that users don’t need to constantly tweak the result of a LaTeX import/export to get desired results.
This would make it easier to write a paper with coauthors using LaTeX.
Would it be feasible to give users an easy way to customize the LaTeX import and export filters from within their documents and/or config files?
I think it is already possible in some way: the conversion happens in scheme code, so functions can be redefined or tweaked without recompiling. For export we already have some tags which allow to insert LaTex specific tags in the document. The incremental conversion support that Joris has introduced should alleviate problems on repeated conversion but need more testing, I think.
