How do I change the starting number of a list?

To add a menu item:

(menu-bind enumerate-menu
  (former)
  ---
  ("Continued" (make-tmlist 'enumerate-continued)))

Hi, I’ve been struggling with this for over a year. I can’t even figure out how to insert that <assign|item-nr|1> without it being wrapped inside an . In general, everyone talks about inserting code of various kinds, and I can’t even figure out from the manual how to insert that code. I’ve tried switching on ā€œEdit Source Treeā€ and it shows me the code that exists, but I have trouble actually editing it. I can’t even figure out where in the manual I would learn how to do this. Help??

In the document type ā€œ\assignā€ then press enter, you will have the inactive macro with slots for the arguments which you have to fill and then you press enter again and the macro is activated and disappears (if you are not in source mode), but it works. If you move around with the cursor you will notice that it is there, e.g. from the football and from the small motions of the cursor when you go left or right.

If you are working in the preamble the macro will not disappear when you activate it.
