How to continue numbering to the next column in table?

I want to make something like this with table.

| a. Step 1 | c. Step 3 |
| b. Step 2 | d. Step 4 |

Hi @Djy and welcome!

It would help to know your use case. Does is have to be inside a table? You can do something similar easily with a two-column layout (Format->Paragraph->Number of columns)

Thank you for your reply @jeroen , I want to make a multiple choice quiz, with two column on a paper, and make the choice also divided into two columns if it has short answer.

I would have a look at the Education -> Exam style. This has some macros for multiple choice questions.
You can insert a vertical multiple choice question and set its paragraph to two columns:
