List of figures: don't capture the whole caption please

It seems my figure captions need to be short. Otherwise, the list of figures captures the entirety of the caption, and doesn’t even line-wrap.

Is there any way to avoid this? I think it would be nice, e.g., if it only captured the first sentence of the captions. But I’m curious about any alternatives.
