Move/enable TeXmacs menu bar to macOS native menu bar?

Hello,

is it possible to move the TeXmacs manu bar to macOS native top bar?
I tried to find something in Preferences and other menu settings but did not succeed so far.

Is this feature removed? Because I could see that in some older TeXmacs videos on youtube, the bar was there (see Screenshot below).

Thanks in advance!

Ok, it took me some time but I found a corresponding bug report on savanna:
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?63614

The native OS X appearance is deprecated, unfortunately,
due to the highly buggy implementation of native menus of Qt.
We managed to get things working appropriately in Qt4,
but the ARM port requires Qt5. We soon plan to move to Qt5
for all supported operating systems.

Unfortunately, according to the ticket, the bug won’t be fixed:
Status: Wont Fix

This issue has been resolved in recent testing builds. You can try it out here.

Hi @xuyiqi1,

thanks for your feedback!
I downloaded the ARM version:
https://ftp.texmacs.org/TeXmacs/dev/testing/20241122/TeXmacs-2.1.4-os11.0.arm.signed.dmg

deinstalled my old texmacs including the ~/.TeXmacs directory and installed the testing build.
However, there is no change for me see the following screenshot:

I’m not sure if this is only on my device? Am I missing something?

Same here. Besides, this build seems to be highly experimental and some common features, like inserting display math via keyboard short cuts, are not yet fully implemented. So I reinstalled TeXmacs 2.1.4 as of May 3 2024.

Cheers, Tilda

I got it to work!
There is a setting to be made under Preferences -> Other -> Use native menu bar

After using this setting, the menu bar is on the top again

Thank you very much @xuyiqi1 !

Thanks for the information. TeXmacs really does look much better now on macOS, despite having to get used to a slightly different workflow. Yet I still experience some real quirks on my system, like the curser suddenly disappearing or having to use the menu to edit the source tree as option command S doesn’t work. I wonder if you, @dash003, experienced similar things too.

Yes, I’ve noticed some keyboard shortcuts not working, too. On my Mac, inserting Displayed Formula (Ctrl + $) works, but Edit source tree (Option + Command + S) or Edit preamble (Option + Command + P) doesn’t. I suggest you to report it on the mailing list.

Hello @Tilda,

As I am utilising a bespoke keyboard configuration (non-standard US), I am unable to confirm whether all functions are operating as intended. Due to the nature of my configuration, even in other applications, some shortcuts are not accessible.

I can obtain a test MacBook with a US layout to facilitate testing, although this may require some time.

No need to hurry,@dash003. On the mailing list other users have confirmed the issues, and Grégoire Lecerf is working on a solution. C.f. the thread on https://lists.texmacs.org/wws/arc/texmacs-users/2024-12/msg00006.html.
