``Norm'' becomes ``absolute value'' when converting from LaTeX to TeXmacs

Hi all,

For most of the time, if I converts \|...\| from LaTeX to TeXmacs, it becomes ``absolute value’’ |…|. How can I avoid this?

Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Yeoi

I tried it now, using “Paste from LaTeX” while in inline math and I obtained <around|\<\|\|\>|...|\<\|\|\>>, which is the norm symbol with the double bar. Are you able to give more detail on your For most of the time expression?

Hi Pireddag,

Thank you very much for your message. Usually, I use “\ |…\ |” to input a norm in LaTeX, then I transfer to TeXmacs which gives me the absolute value.

Hi @yeoi
from the information that you give I have not been able to understand what happens.

This said, I tried pasting as LaTeX \ |…\ | on Windows and I do obtain the absolute value. Maybe pasting \ |…\ | works one way on Windows and one way on Linux, which I think would be a bug.

I think the issue deserves further investigation. Which operating system are you on?

Hi Pireddag,

Thank you for your message. I use both Windows and MacOS. They have the same issue from my end.

Best regards,
Yeoi

I am able to reproduce it somewhat.

  • Pressing \ and then | gives me a double bar
  • Pressing Ctrl+\ to get the latex input, then | gives a single bar

This happens both inside and outside of math mode.
This is probably a bug.

Hi @schroedingers_possum,

Thank you for sharing this.

Best regards,
Yeoi
