TexMacs Stopped Working

M3 Mac OS14.5. I had TexMacs working, and suddenly it’s refusing to launch. I tried deleting it from my Applications folder and reinstalling— the version that is supposed to be compatible with M1 machines and that worked before. That didn’t help. I see in the FAQ that another suggestion is:

  1. Try to open TeXmacs with the –setup option:

texmacs --setup

I assume that means I’m supposed to type that command in a terminal window, but when I do that (even while in a directory containing TeXmacs), I get a “command not found” error. I’ve also tried restarting the machine. Any other suggestions? This is frustrating, to say the least— It was working just fine for several months, until yesterday. No recent updates to OS, that I’m aware of.

Please try deleting your ~/.TeXmacs folder. TeXmacs will regenerate it at startup and, if that was the cause of the crash, will run.

“that” = a corrupt ~/.TeXmacs folder.

Aha, thanks, that worked! I hadn’t quite understood that /.TeXmacs is not the same as the application itself. Also, now I’ve learned how to see hidden folders in Finder (I think it used to be harder in earlier OS versions?).
