Underset and Overset not recognized as commands in Texmacs 2.1.4

Hello, new Texmacs user on Windows 11 using Texmacs 2.1.4. I have a standard article that I am trying to use the Latex commands \overset and \underset but they are not recognized as commands by the application. I can use other commands like \frac just fine. I exported the article to Latex, added an example of \underset and imported it back into Texmacs and it displayed correctly.

I think I am missing something obvious here. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
K

@neophyte123 Welcome to the forum!

TeXmacs is not designed to be a LaTeX frontend, so not all LaTeX commands are supported. For \overset and \underset, the corresponding TeXmacs macros are \above and \below, respectively. Alternatively, in math mode, you can use the third icon on the math toolbar or the menu option Insert → Script → Script above/below. If you need to place scripts on binary relation symbols like =, , and others in the math mode, it can be done more simply using the usual ^ and _ for superscripts and subscripts.

@xuyiqi1 Thank you so much for the quick reply, really appreciate it. Are the out of the box macros documented?

I do not know of a list of macros (perhaps ordered by topic) with explanations. Both the manual and the book (the Jolly Writer) cover a part of the macros.

You can also help yourself from the menus; you find exempli gratia the below operator in one of the menus in the ribbon when you are in a formula, together with its shortcut. Once you insert a macro from the menu, you can read its name switching to source mode (menu Document -> Source -> Edit source tree).

It is also possible to paste from LaTeX (menu Edit -> Paste from -> LaTeX); if the program converts the LaTeX construct into a TeXmacs construct you are then able to see which construct in the source mode.
