Vertical Math: Column addition and subtraction

Is it possible to do vertical math and show adding and subtracting of columns like in this image?

currently you could use tabular to achieve this

Thanks. I’ll look into tabular. Thing is I’m just trying to move up from using notepad as a scratchpad for doing math. I keep thinking it should just be more symbols, subscripts and superscripts. I guess I’m looking for a stripped down version, that let’s me do what I want with the white space. I don’t know. I’ll work more with TeXmacs, see what I can figure out.
