Maxima response inserts spurious * char

Dear all, I posted this concern once previously, under the “General” tag. Hoping for a solution by posting in thsi specific “Plugins” category.

The output received back from maxima as math appears to insert multiple * characters. Not specific to TeXmacs version but specific to Windows . I use TeXmacs 2.1.4. Here is an example of what I mean:

Take image , press Ctrl-Enter to evaluate, and we get back image, which looks fine but it is fact not “2*x+1” but instead it is returned as image . This means I can no longer use that response again in Maxima without further manual editing!

Much appreciate any suggestions for a fix. Thanks.

Kind regards,
Murali

I am with TeXmacs 2.1.2 on Windows 10, because 2.1.4 for me has spacing bugs in math.

I tested your example and I got 2*x+1, with one multiplication sign, both inside a session and in a formula (using Maxima as a script).

If you want to get some debug information (might be helpful for a bug report), you can get it by the method described in https://texmacs.github.io/notes/docs/windows-output-error.html ; you have to select io in the TeXmacs Debug menu, which you activate from the Tool menu.

Even with 2.1.2 I have the same problem, across two machines. I am on windows 11, perhaps that is the issue?!
Could you please let me know the version of maxima you use so I can rule out issues with Maxima.
Thanks again.
Murali
